Are There Some Jobs Robots Just Shouldn't Do

We might not think twice about using an automated teller machine or allowing an algorithm to find us the best travel deal. But we may not be quite so comfortable about being cared for by a robot nurse or reading a news article written by a bot. As we enter the ‘auto-industrial’ age, are there some jobs we shouldn’t allow robots to do?

Join our panel of academics from La Trobe University as they discuss this urgent question from a range of different industry perspectives: Dr Katharine McKinnon on care work, Dr Mira Stammers on law, and Professor Lawrie Zion on journalism. Chairing the discussion is Dr Sara James, whose research focuses on the changing role of work in people’s lives in an era of fragmented careers and precarious employment.

This is event is part of NextFest: a series of public events hosted by La Trobe University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences that engages with the key challenges and possibilities of our immediate future.
