The Stupendous Book Writing Experiment (Melbourne)

Have YOU been thinking about writing a book but struggling with time and know-how to get it done? This experiment is set out to prove that you CAN write a book in a weekend. BUT CAN YOU WRITE A BOOK IN A WEEKEND? As in actually, physically write it? There are weekend programs out there that charge you big dollars to record your book and have it transcribed. The problem with that is there is still a lot of work to do with the transcription to make it a readable book because the content is messy and only about 50% of authors follow through. We think you can write it with the right planning and dedication. This experiment will be an intense marathon but you will most likely have a book at the end of it or at least a very large portion of it. Who is this good for? Entrepreneurs, small business owners, health practitioners, business coaches, life coaches, people in leadership roles.  What about fiction? If you're writing a novel, novella or short stories, this will depend on the length of your work but you will get a very good chunk of it written. What are the secret ingredients for writing a book? a dedicated space to write being fed copious cups of tea or coffee being comfortable and warm  having the shared energy of other people on the same mission access to professional help pre-planning post writing follow up. This event will provide all of that. All you need is to turn up with your laptop, your planning pages (I'll help you with these) and the determination to get it done. If you don't have a laptop, a few computers are available. Are you up for the challenge? The program Pre-planning will be a 60 minutes chat in person or by phone/skype with Blaise to plan out the structure of your book. Saturday & Sunday will both be 8am until 5pm with lunch and refreshments through the day. You will be literally WRITING during this time but with breaks, food and activities throughout the day to keep you motivated. Post follow-up will happen within 14 days of the weekend to make sure you are completing your mission. YOUR FACILITATOR, Blaise will be on hand to help and to also take part in the challenge to write her own book. Blaise van Hecke is the publisher at Busybird Publishing. Blaise helps other writers to find their voice through coaching and publishing at Busybird Publishing. She runs various workshops for Busybird about writing, editing, and publishing, and is popularly in demand for talks about publishing in general. Blaise’s story ‘Eleventh Summer’ came second place in the biennial short story competition with the Society of Women Writers (Vic) in 2007, which has since been published in the anthology, Mud Puddles, and the anthology, Thirteen Stories. She has also had other stories published in Blue Crow Magazine, 21D Magazine, Fellowship of Australian Writers, and [untitled]. Blaise is also the author of The Book Book: 12 Steps to Successful Publishing and co-author of Self-Made: Real Australian Business Stories, and contributor to the Health Conscious series Healthy Body and Healthy Mind. She is now working on her first fiction novel, ‘The Colours of Ash’. Her memoir, The Road to Tralfamadore is Bathed in River Water , is due for release August 2018. Blaise runs Busybird Publishing with her husband, Kev, in the leafy suburb of Montmorency (Melbourne) where they have formed a creative hub for writers and artists through workshops, mentorship, publishing services and open mic nights. To date they have nurtured over 300 books into the world. Blaise is an enthusiastic advocate for writing and the arts, and a member of the Nillumbik Arts Advisory Committee.
