Mental Health First Aid course in Melbourne with Emi & Pedro

In our communities, one in five people will experience a mental health problem every year. The Mental Health First Aid course is designed to increase the mental health literacy of the public, and to provide a basic foundation in mental health for people working in the community sector.
      Course Content:
Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, or who is in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional treatment is received or the crisis resolves. The Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of these mental health problems, where and how to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.
This course covers how to assist adults in these crisis situations:
      Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
      Panic attacks
      Traumatic events
      Severe psychotic states
Severe effects from alcohol and drugs
      Aggressive behaviours

This course also teaches you how to help people with the following mental health problems before a crisis develops:
      Substance misuse
      Learning Objectives:
MHFA Training can provide members of the community with:
Skills in how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems.
Knowledge of the possible causes or risk factors for these mental health problems.
Awareness of the evidenced based medical, psychological and alternative treatments available.
Skills in how to give appropriate initial help and support someone experiencing a mental health problem.
Skills in how to take appropriate action if a crisis situation arises involving suicidal behaviour, panic attack, stress reaction to trauma, overdose or threatening psychotic behavior.
      Course Format:
This is a 12 hour course, which is delivered as a 2 day training package. A manual is provided to each participant attending the course, along with a take home show bag of useful resources.
