First Tuesday Book Club October 2019 - with 4 Special Guest Authors!

Please note new location, Barolo Trattoria Camberwell. We apologise for the inconvenience, the function room is upstairs & there is no lift. *Please note that there is NO SET BOOK for our Book Club! You may come & just listen, or talk about whatever you have recently been reading - no pressure, just books!* Our guest authors for Tuesday October 1st are: Doris Brett & Kerry Cue - Sunday Story Club Real-life tales from Australian women about love, loss, trauma, and resilience. We all carry stories within us - wrenching, redemptive, extraordinary, and laced with unexpected and hard-won wisdom. These are the real-life stories that a group of women tells each other when they gather for a deep and structured conversation - once a month in a suburban living room - about the things that really matter. They discover that life can be a heartbeat away from chaos; that bad things happen to good people; that good people do outrageous things; that the desire for transformation is enduringly human. Karen Turner - historical romance Karen’s first foray into the world of publishing was an eclectic compilation of short stories; All That & Everything, many of which won literary awards. Though Australian-born, Karen has strong family ties to Italy and England, particularly Yorkshire, where she once lived and regularly visits – the inspiration for the setting of her novels. Karen’s first novel, Torn was a stunning success and her ‘cinematic’ writing style attracted worldwide attention. Torn was quickly followed by its sequel, Inviolate which picks-up where Torn fans were left wanting more. Stormbird, the third, and final, installment in the Torn trilogy was released recently. Julie D. Jones - crime fiction Julie is a British/Australian citizen, currently residing in the Blue Mountains, West of Sydney. Before training as a nurse at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, Julie lived and worked in Bavaria, Germany. Here she made many friends and learned to speak the language. Born in Bovey Tracey on the edge of the Dartmoor she grew up on the South Coast around Kingsbridge. Memories of excursions onto the rugged moors, riding around the idyllic backcountry lanes and summers spent on the surf beaches; coupled with a love of writing and a passionate interest in all things forensic science was the inspiration for the MOORLAND FORENSIC series of crime fiction. ________________________________________ We will provide some finger foods and beverages/tea/coffee on the night, as well as some giveaways supplied by publishers. The cost for each evening will be $15.00 all inclusive. Please join us by booking a ticket here. Doors open 6.30pm for a 6.45pm start. Dymocks Camberwell celebrated 2012 The National Year of Reading with the inauguration of our very own First Tuesday Book Club, each month. After our guest authors speak, we finish the evening by talking about our favourite novels, both new & older ones. We will ask participants to comment about books they have read or are reading, just like a normal book club. We won’t be setting a monthly book, as we want to hear about as many books as possible, including old favourites. You may just want to listen at times and hear about other people’s experiences with their books. It is totally up to you!
