Creating a campus for all: Universal Design and accessibility at University

The University of Melbourne occupies an important place in our community; supporting the exchange of ideas and new knowledge, and promoting debate on issues of local, national and international concern.  It is therefore vital that the University and its activities be accessible to all members of the University community, its staff and students, and to members of the wider community.      As part of National Social Sciences Week, the Scope-University of Melbourne Partnership is pleased to present a symposium exploring the principles of Universal Design and how they can be used to enable access for all community members to what a university has to offer. The symposium will feature three presentations: The application of Universal Design to communication accessibility - investigating how the principles of Universal Design can be applied to promote communication access for all. Considerations on accessibility for promoting good practice in the communication of ideas, and in the conduct of other University activities and events - building on the expert opinion of a group of people with lived experience of disability and a variety of access support needs.  A model Accessible Events Guide - informed by the principles of Universal Design and based on a consultation with key stakeholders.  We hope you can join us for this free public event. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be served following the symposium.
