Stop Adani Fundraiser Screening - Samson and Delilah

We would like to formally acknowledge that this event is taking place on stolen land. We pay our respects to the traditional custodians of the land, the Boonwurung and Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nations. As sovereignty was never ceded, this was and always will be Aboriginal Land.Come down to Federation Hall for a screening of Warwick Thornton’s Samson and Delilah (2009).All proceeds will be going towards financial support for the Wangan and Jagalingou people in their legal fight with Adani. The situation:The Wangan and Jagalingou Traditional Owners in QLD have taken Adani to court, seeking to invalidate a land deal that is crucial to the building of the Carmichael Mine. The mine is set to be built in the Galilee Basin, land which belongs to the Wangan and Jagalingou people. The Traditional Owners have been ordered by the court to pay $50,000 in security costs or possibly have their appeal thrown out. The film:Fourteen-year-old Aboriginal kids Samson and Delilah hail from an isolated community in the Central Australian desert, where - for Samson - sniffing petrol is one of the few available ways of escaping the suffocating grimness of daily life. After a persistent campaign to gain Delilah's affections, Samson steals the community's sole motor car and persuades her to elope with him to Alice Springs. The details:This is a pay-as-you-feel donation event. Drinks and food will be available for an extra donation.Address: Federation Hall, 5/7-17 Grant St, Southbank VIC 3006Time: 5pmMore information:Wangan & Jagalingou People: article: Adani:
